Kids 1 and 2 participated in the 5K walk, with Kid 1 speed-walking her way to 2nd place in the walk. (She's pretty pumped about that!) Kid 2 gritted her way through the walk despite having strained a muscle in her hip when she was running around playing night games with friends last night.
Stable Boy, Kids 3 & 4 and I all signed up for the 5K run. Stable Boy's plantar tendon is still not fully healed so he opted to walk the whole time. He probably should have sat out entirely, but we had made a big deal to the kids about the entire family doing it, so he felt obligated.
Kid 4 was the first "runner" in our family to cross the finish line. Kid 3 (who wanted me to stay with her as her running buddy) and I were right behind him. Kid 3 was struggling with sore knees and needed to stop and walk multiple times.
I have to say that this was the most relaxing race I've ever participated in. Maybe that's because it's the only one where I wasn't trying to push myself to run as fast as I possibly could for the entire distance.
