Well, for two reasons. Most vet charge an additional $10 as an "injection fee". With four horses, that would have added $40 to the bill. The four vaccinations by themselves already totaled $187.37.
The second reason was a combination of cost and hassle. Since I only have a two-horse trailer, I would have either had to make two trips back and forth to the vet, or I would have had to pay another fee for him to make a house call.
I decided it was simpler just to do it myself.
Productive weekend for us. The kids ran a 5 K Saturday morning. Stable Boy spread a load of gravel by the barn cement pad and in various other locations. He also spread 3 more loads of topsoil along the ditch bank. We raked it smooth and I seeded pasture grass (cross your fingers that it grows in thick and luxurious!)
We tested our new ditch for the first time. We really needed to water badly! The ditch works great, but Stable Boy isn't satisfied with the main gate, so he plans to redo that this weekend.
We raked up all of the sticks that have blown off the willows the last few weeks and the kids mowed the lawn.
