Yup. Huh-huh. That's us. Front page news. I've even got proof. See... The girls were perched on the goat pens trying to hang up their loot after showing their goats. Kid 1 took Grand Champion in both Showmanship and Quality in the Dairy goat show and Kid 3 was the Reserve Grand Champion in both of those classes. Kid 4 had a challenging goat-one that we had borrowed from the neighbor--this year, but still pulled off a blue ribbon for showmanship and a red for quality. In addition to the goats, we entered 2 bunnies and 4 chickens in the open classes--one of which took Reserve Grand Champion. We also took Piper and Raven to be a part of the fair "petting zoo". Both horses really seemed to enjoy all of the attention. Our county fair has a "round-robin" class on Saturday morning. The Showmanship Grand Champion from each of the livestock categories is invited to participate in this class. The winners rotate through each other's animals and the one that is ranked highest with each animal wins. That means Kid 1 had the opportunity to show her goat, a meat goat, 2 steers, a dairy cow, a sheep and a pig. She did an awesome job, but one of the beef cattle kids took home the prize. It was still a lot of fun for her, though. There you have it. Madison County Fair 2013. Whoo-hoo! Thank goodness we survived another year!
