The worst part of painting? Creeping out along the plank to reach the high wall of the stairwell! The plank is balanced on the second step of my step ladder at the top of the stairs and on the extension ladder at the other end. I hate ladders!

Normally I don't consider that a problem-I just ignore that and keep asking for the lope and eventually they figure out that going by the gate isn't going to "save" them, but right now the ground near the gate is a sheet of ice. Today I worked on it in the barn where the footing is better and had some success.
Next week I plan to continue working on these things. I also want to work more on backing and getting him to stop better on cue. His one-rein stops are pretty good (he still likes to circle some, but he's getting better), but if you try to back him or stop him with two reins, his first response is to brace and nose out instead of giving to the bit.
