Me: What made you think of this?
Stable Boy (shrugging): I heard the ad on the radio. I liked his song Billy the Kid. I don't know any other songs he does.
Stable Boy and I tend to be a bit oblivious to pop culture, but it turned out that we recognized and enjoyed quite a few of the songs Billy sang. The best songs of the evening, though, were the duets he sang with his 17 year old daughter. I think she may be even more talented than he is!
Billy told stories between songs. My two favorites dealt with his ex-mother-in-law.
Story One: One year for Christmas, his mother-in law got him a graveyard plot. The next year she didn't get him anything.
Billy (razzing): Why didn't you get me anything this year?
MIL: You never used what I got you last year!
Story 2: Billy got a big paycheck when he finally had his first really big hit song. He said it was a really large check.
MIL: So I hear you finally are getting paid for the work you do.
Billy: That's right. In fact, let me buy Christmas for everyone this year. What do you want for Christmas?
MIL (after a moments thought): Something silver that goes zero to 200 in less than three seconds. Can your paycheck handle that?
Billy (snickering): So I bought her a scale!
At the end of the evening, Billy issued an invitation to anyone travelling to Tennessee to come visit him at his farm about an hour out of Nashville. Apparently they rent out guest cabins and have converted a barn into a music venue. Everyone is welcome and will be fed "mind, body and spirit."
